I don't think I've seen a deviation with this kind of mix of sweetness and danger. Awesome! That bird (canary? I've gotten terrible about recognizing different breeds over the years Dx) looks like he's about to give poor Kiki a beat-down. And it looks like she's made her decision on who to eat for lunch. She is such a cutie!
The sharpness is in all the right places and the softness and less-saturated tones of the background allows the viewer's eyes to keep on the subjects. My only complaint is that the highlights of the photo are too bright. They're the only distraction I can see. Unfortunately, I can't really think of anything that could be done to change it save for finding a completely different area to shoot. I'm not sure how feasible that is for you.
Your post-production calms down the tone of the story in this photo - it feels light and dreamy. I can't think of anything that doesn't sound silly and cliché.
I took the liberty of checking out the rest of your gallery and noticed that the softness and cool tones are a consistent theme in your photos, it's a branding that stands out and is easily recognizable.
Overall, I freaking love this image. And your gallery. Keep up the great work!
"This.. this is how it must be. The bars between us, forever, if you were to gain freedom of this magnificent cage.. I am afraid I would not, could not allow you to linger. To live. You are.. a tease my fine feathered friend. A reminder of what I came from."
